On a stage, Willy Tybur tells the crowd that the history they know - brave Marleyan heroes fighting back against the conquering Eldian Empire - isn't entirely true. The penny finally drops for the young boy when he sees Reiner's horrified face - but it's far too late. As the festival begins, he gets Falco to bring Reiner to him for an impromptu reunion. Eren persuades a sympathetic Falco to send letters for him, which, unbeknownst to the boy, are being picked up by his comrades in the Survey Corps, who also infiltrated Marley. PARADIS STRIKES BACKīefore the day of the festival, Falco befriends a wounded veteran who we later learn is none other than an older Eren Jaeger. There, he delivers the "truth" to an unsuspecting audience. Worried for his cousin, Gabi, who wants nothing more than to be a "good Eldian" and inherit his Titan power, he persuades her friend, Falco, to try and oust her, saving her from her cousin's fate. This leads him to influence the next generation of Warriors: children trained from a young age to become candidates to receive the Titan powers - the Beast, Cart, Jaw and Armored Titan - Marley still has control of. An entire adolescence spent behind enemy lines has ripped the soldier's psyche apart, leaving him to try to correlate the Marleyan propaganda about "island devils" with a life he spent living among people that were actually just like him. Situated in the heart of the "motherland" of Marley, we see how Reiner - the holder of the Armored Titan power and the only Marleyan Warrior to make it home from their Eldian infiltration mission - is coping. Marley is responsible for the barrage of Titans that have been attacking what they call the Island of Paradis - Eren's all-Eldian home - which King Fritz, whose family held the power of the Founding Titan, sealed away by commanding legions of huge Titans to form the walls, and then erased the memories of the citizens inside. She became the Founding Titan, with her power disseminated through her bloodline after her untimely death. Eldians are also known as the Subjects of Ymir, a girl who, 2,000 years ago, made some kind of pact with a demon or God (depending on who's telling the story) granting her the power of a Titan. That place was the nation of Marley, that - like a lot of other nations - harbors an ingrained grudge against Grisha and Eren's race, the Eldians, for their ancestors' past Imperial rule over the world. Using the key left to him by his father, he (literally) unlocked a world-changing secret: his father, Grisha Jaeger, came from a place beyond the walls that have kept Eren's homeland an isolated island for a century.
