If the license service does not start, check that the service is configured as a Local System account, rather than a Local Service account.
Start the license server by clicking “Start Server” in the lmtools.exe program. Select “Use Services” and then “Start Server at Power Up”. If you want to install just the license server software without the Schrödinger Suite, see Article 1820. On macOS, you can create a launchd service. On Linux, you can create a systemd service.
On Windows, you can create a Windows service to automatically start the license server process, when the machine is started.
